Sliding Puzzle

Classic 8-tile puzzle: slide pieces into the empty space until the numbers run 1 through 8 from top-left to bottom-right.

Tap a tile next to the gap to move it.

How to play

  • Only tiles next to the empty cell (up, down, left, or right) can move-never diagonally.
  • Each tap swaps that tile with the empty space.
  • Goal: 1-3 on the top row, 4-6 on the middle, 7-8 on the bottom, gap bottom-right.
  • New puzzle shuffles with legal moves only (always solvable).

Sliding Puzzle rewards planning more than speed, so begin each round by understanding the final order you want before making random moves. The most effective approach is to solve the board row by row, starting from the top-left and locking completed sections in place. When moving a tile toward its target, think in small loops that reposition the empty space without disturbing solved tiles. Many players get stuck because they chase one tile and accidentally break previous progress. To avoid this, treat the blank square as your main tool and always plan where it should be after each move. In early stages, prioritize getting the first row and first column correct, then move inward gradually. If a sequence feels blocked, step back two or three moves and create a new path instead of forcing the same pattern. A steady rhythm helps reduce unnecessary taps and keeps your move count low. On touch screens, use precise taps and wait for each animation to finish before the next action. As you improve, challenge yourself to solve with fewer moves rather than only faster time. Consistent puzzle solving comes from pattern recognition, patience, and controlled execution. With practice, you will begin to see common tile cycles and finish boards much more confidently.

Work row by row. If you get stuck, start a New puzzle.
